Sweetheart's Dance with local musicians Cole Creek. Tickets are $20 per couple in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Library. Tickets include the entire event plus finger foods and drinks for each couple.

Walk Scavenger Hunt 9AM – Noon

Walkers will start at the Lee Pellon Center and walk the Rails For Trails to Route 1A and return back to the Lee Pellon Center to enter their scavenger items.

$500 Grand Prize

Free T-Shirt per participant while supplies last!!

Entries are to be turned in no later than Noon at the Lee Pellon Center!

Winter Sports and Fun Day

Location:Pottle Tree Farm
507 South Meadow Rd., Perry, ME

Stronghearts, in recognition of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week,is sponsoring the 11th Annual Winter Sports & Fun Day. Activities include a ski race, miles of open ski trails, ice fishing, snowshoeing, sledding skating and igloo making. There will also be a fireside potluck. Skates, skis and snowshoes are available. Location:Sunrise Trail and East Machias Aquatic Research Center

This 4-miler is a trail race paired with a smoked alewife celebration. The race will start at the Machias dike and follow the Downeast Sunrise Trail to the East Machias Aquatic Research Center, where we will be smoking whole alewifes at the awards ceremony.

Held on the 3rd Friday of every month, the coffeehouse features a different local musician or band for the first segment, and an open mic for members of the audience who come prepared with instruments and songs. Each month, a different community group or nonprofit offers a variety of bakedgoods for sale. Donations at the door go th the musicians, and funds from the bake sale go to the group who baked them.

10th Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival

Location:Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge & Cobscook Community Learning Center

The Down East Spring Birding Festival, is accepting registrations for its 10th annual event over Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-27,2013. The festival, which features guided bird walks, boat rides, and presentations for advanced, intermediate, and beginning birders has been rated one of the best in the country for 2011 & 2012 by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

9th Annual Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair

The Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair, sponsored by the Machias Historical Society and held at the University of Maine at Machias mall takes one back to a day in 1775 thus bringing history to life. It features an encampment of soldier and patriot re-enactors, period demonstrations such as blacksmithing, timber framing, weaving, and tomahawk throwers, Passamaquoddy Tribal members, entertainment (music, storyteller, informative talks, historical presentations, etc.)children's activities, food, and contemporary crafters and artists.

Tribes of the Dawn Land Cultural and Heritage Days

Location:Passamaquoddy Tribal Lands, Indian Township on Rural Route 1 just North of Princeton Maine

Cultural crafts from the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Maliseet, and Micmac tribes: traditional handcrafted one-of-a-kind ash splint and sweet grass baskets, flutes, dream catchers, birch bark baskets, beaded jewelry, wood carvings, curly bowls, native dolls, walking sticks, art works and display of numerous books about Maine Tribes.
Demonstrations: making traditional baskets, pounding ash, bead working, flute and drum making, and birch bark canoe making.
Presentations: Native story telling, Native shawl dancing, drumming, archeological finds, Passamaquoddy medicine and videos featuring Native American stories.

Most of our summer dates are reserved for overnight guests. However, we have a few Open Houses during the summer so that the general public can visit and view the lighthouse and enjoy the restoration work we have done.

Our open houses will provide a boat ride to the island from Cutler Harbor. We will also have refreshments on the island and souvenirs for sale. We hope you will take time to come and visit with us.

Our open houses are completely weather dependent. Events will be postponed till the next day, for high winds, dense fog, driving rain, or rough seas. If you are unsure, call our office, we will have the latest news regarding cancellations on our answering machine at (207)259-3833.

Maine Open Lighthouse Day

The U.S. Coast Guard, the State of Maine and the American Lighthouse Foundation are pleased to announce the fourth annual Maine Open Lighthouse Day.

Last year, hundreds of people visited lighthouses along the Maine coast in the largest effort of its kind in the nation. This year we expect another fun family event.

East Machias River Day

Location:Mill Park

All your favorite River Day activities and offerings are back this year. Bring the kids for the only frog-jumping contest in Maine. Stay all day for games, dunk tank, train rides, concessions, and homemade lemonade. New this year is a jumbo water slide for the bigger kids. Haddock fish fry with all the trimmings $12. Local country/western band, Desperado, takes the stage at 3:30 until 7:30pm.

River Day is a chem-free event. No bicycles, or animals of any kind other than service dogs, are allowed in the park.

Rain Date: Sunday, June 23rd.
